What is CBT and how can it help you? Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based 'talking therapy' designed to assist individuals, including children, in understanding the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and actions. Unlike some therapies that focus heavily on the past, CBT is practical and geared towards the present. It serves as a valuable 'toolkit' for breaking free from negative cycles, such as the 'what if' loops of anxiety or the overwhelming feelings associated with low mood. CBT can also be beneficial as a neurodivergence therapy, offering tailored strategies to support diverse cognitive profiles.
In our sessions, we work as a team. I bring my clinical expertise and 7 years of specialist experience from NHS CAMHS, while you (or your child) bring the expertise on your own life. Together, we act like 'co-investigators,' identifying the patterns that are holding you back and testing out new, more helpful ways of coping through CBT techniques.
Because I am neuro-affirming and specialize in neurodivergence therapy, I don't believe in 'one size fits all.' We will adapt these CBT tools to fit your unique brain and way of seeing the world, ensuring that our therapy for children feels supportive, empowering, and, most importantly, effective for your day-to-day life.
