Safety Planning & Strategies

While waiting for support, you may find it helpful to use a safety plan. This is a set of steps you can take to stay safe until the feeling passes.

  • Stay Alive App: A pocket suicide prevention resource with tools for staying safe.
  • Sensory Grounding: Try the 5-4-3-2-1 technique: Name 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell, and 1 you can taste.
  • Safe Spaces: Identify a room or area where you feel slightly more regulated and remove any items that feel unsafe.
