As a practitioner with almost a decade of experience in specialist NHS CAMHS, I am committed to maintaining the highest standards of professional practice and data security. This page outlines how I protect your information and the professional frameworks that guide my work.
1. Professional Framework & Ethics
I operate as a Level 7 University Trained CBT Therapist and am currently in the process of finalising my accreditation with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
- I adhere to the BABCP Standards of Conduct, Performance, and Ethics.
- I engage in regular Clinical Supervision with a senior accredited therapist to ensure my practice remains safe, effective, and evidence-based.
- I maintain Professional Indemnity Insurance by Balens Limited, specifically for the provision of psychological therapies.
2. Privacy & Data Protection (GDPR)
In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Registration number is ZC117231.
- What Data I Collect: I collect personal information (name, contact details) and sensitive clinical data (session notes, assessment scores, and history).
- Why I Collect It: This data is essential for providing effective clinical treatment and ensuring your safety.
- How I Store It: To ensure the highest level of security, I use Halaxy, a specialist, GDPR-compliant clinical management system. This platform uses industry-standard encryption to ensure your personal information and session notes are stored safely and are only accessible by me.
- Data Retention: In line with clinical guidelines, I retain records for 7 years following the end of therapy (or until a minor reaches age 25). After this period, data is securely destroyed.
3. Confidentiality & Its Limits
Everything discussed in our sessions is confidential. However, as a professional, there are legal and ethical limits to this confidentiality:
- Safeguarding: If I have a serious concern that you or someone else (especially a child or vulnerable adult) is at risk of significant harm, I have a duty of care to share this information with the relevant authorities (e.g., GP, Social Care, or Emergency Services).
- Clinical Supervision: I discuss cases with my supervisor to ensure the best care; however, your identity is kept anonymous during these sessions.
- Legal Requirement: In rare cases, records may be subpoenaed by a court of law.
4. Digital Security & Online Sessions
To ensure your privacy during online therapy:
- I use Microsoft Teams, a secure and encrypted platform. .
- I work from a private, soundproofed room to ensure our conversations are not overheard.
- I encourage clients to ensure they are in a safe, private space at their end before the session begins.
5. Complaints Procedure
I strive to provide a high-quality, neuro-affirming service. If you have concerns about our work together, I encourage you to discuss them with me directly so we can find a resolution. If you feel your concern has not been addressed, you can contact the BABCP for guidance on their formal complaints process by clicking here.
